Laminate flooring advantages and disadvantages
Laminate flooring is made of thin pressed wood board with an image of wood on top covered by a clear wear layer to protect the image.
Laminate flooring pros
1. Inexpensive
Laminate flooring is much less expensive than solid wood. If you’re on a budget, it allows you to get the look of hardwood affordably.
2. Easy installation
Laminate boards are designed to interlock, making them very easy to work with. The edges and ends snap together so there’s no nailing. Laminate can be installed on nearly any type of subfloor, from concrete to pre-existing vinyl floors.
3. Design options
Laminate flooring can be found in a wide variety of styles: wood, tile and stone finishes. All of these are available in different surface treatments, colors, thickness and plank styles.
4. Easy maintenance
It is protected by an external layer and resin coating, scratch-resistant and durable. Unlike hardwood, the stain resistant nature of laminate flooring makes spills cleaning easy – no special cleaners required. Just be sure to clean up spills quickly however, as laminate is not waterproof.
Laminate flooring cons
1. No refinishing
It can not be refinished the way real wood can so, when it is worn out, it has to be replaced. Avoid cheap laminate flooring, because higher warranty means better quality and longer life.
2. Does not improve resale value
Homebuyers often prefer natural building materials, such as wood and stone and laminate floors, are not as valued as hardwood in the housing market.
3. Synthetic fake
It can look and sound not like natural wood. The wear layer of laminate floor contains plastic that doesn’t degrade in landfills.
